Saturday January 19 was a cold sunny morning in Aztec at Jr. Tiger Arena at Koogler Middle School when the boys' basketball teams met. The Broncos played a tough offensive game and shot three-point baskets exceptionally well! The Tigers worked hard and did a very good job defensively. Most impressive since Koogler Tiger Coach Botello did say after the game this was the first year many of the players had ever played basketball. Although from some photographs, they do look a lot like NBA stars with great style and finesse, just a little shorter because they are in the 8th grade.

In the first quarter Tigers #3 Marcquis Henry scored two points and #35 Tristen Ferrer also scored two points. Broncos #20 Satchel Hogue scored four points in the first quarter. #23 Jarvis Mullahon scored two foul shot points, #32 Dedric Miller scored two points, and #54 Jevon Smith also scored two points in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the score was Tigers 4, Broncos 12.

The second quarter Tigers #3 Marcquis Henry scored four points with two baskets. #30 Tristen Neal scored two points and #35 Tristen Ferrer scored two points. The Broncos #21 Diovanni Pinto scored a nice three-point basket in the second, #22 Dante Tso scored two amazing three point-baskets, #54 Jevon Smith scored two points. The ending score was Tigers 12 Broncos 23.

Tigers #30 Tristen Neal scored two points and two foul shot points in the third quarter for a total of four points. While the Broncos #32 Dedric Miller scored two points, #33 Sequia Santee scored two points and a foul shot point in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter the score was Tigers 16 Broncos 28.

Fourth quarter Tigers did not score. Broncos #52 Andres Helendez scored two points and a free throw in the fourth quarter. #54 Jevon Smith scored ten points with five baskets. #55 Dayton Yazzie scored two points and a free throw in the fourth quarter ending with a final score of Tigers 16 Broncos 44. Outstanding sportsmanship was displayed after the game as both teams joined in a huddle and said a prayer. Both Kirtland and Aztec should be proud of all these fine young athletes.
