Mayors Chair

by Victor Snover, Mayor of Aztec

It’s already the end of January, as we march steadily into 2019 and its hopes and dreams and promises of renewal and fresh beginnings. About this time, folks are moving on from their New Years resolutions or, like many of us, just moving through the world in our day to day of work, family, school, paying our bills, and grinding it out in hopes of an even brighter and more promising tomorrow.

After some downtime and time to celebrate holidays with loved ones, we are back to work here at the City of Aztec, with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for that brighter and more promising future that our citizens want and deserve.

I am hosting another “Meet Your Mayor” event on January 30th, 2019 at the Aztec Senior Center from 6-8:00 PM, light refreshments will be served. Please plan to engage me on any topic that is of importance to you and/or your neighbors and I look forward to seeing many of you there for an honest and hopefully lively discussion around various topics impacting our city and its citizens.

Our government shutdown has passed the 30 day mark, and it’s impacts are starting to be felt throughout our region as federal agency employees are missing paychecks and, in some cases, still compelled to go to work without pay. As we endure the effects of this partial government shutdown, I encourage all of us to take a moment (or many moments) to reach out to our fellow citizens and neighbors to make sure they are holding up during these potentially difficult times. Help out if you are able, and if you’re not able, or if you are experiencing difficulty, reach out to our city staff as they will be in a position to get you to the assistance you need, whether it’s a phone number to an agency that can help or other helpful information, we are here to assist wherever possible.

The New Year is upon us, and with your continued efforts as a collective community of hardworking, dedicated, and caring people, this year will prove to be even better than the last, and 2019 will prove to be a year where Aztec continues to move ahead to be an even better place to live, work, play, and raise a family.

As always, feel free to reach out to me with ideas, concerns, or anything else! I can be reached at [email protected] or (304)550-7099 (cell phone). Thank you for all that you do to make Aztec such a wonderful place to be.

Victor Snover

Mayor of Aztec, NM
