The Effects of the Shutdown on Aztec Ruins and our National Parks

The shutdown is impacting Americans beyond the long-suffering government workers. Aztec Ruins National Monument Park Store is run by the Park’s non-profit partner Western National Parks Association (WNPA) which runs Park Stores in 71 parks in the West and Southwest.

Through January 16, the shutdown has cost WNPA approximately $683,000 in total gross revenue, and that number will continue to grow as the shutdown continues. On average, WNPA has lost $67,800 a day. Why should that matter?

WNPA provides funding for our National Parks various programs. This loss in revenue impedes WNPA’s ability to develop products, services, and programs that enrich the visitor’s understanding, experience, and appreciation of our 71 partner parks. This is taking away from Americans fully experiencing their national heritage. Not to mention all the thousands of international visitors who come to learn about America.

Folks can help out our National Parks including Aztec Ruins by going on Western National Parks Association’s website to donate any amount to help with funding National Parks programs: http://www.wnpa.org/. You can also help out by shopping WNPA online store for National Park memorabilia.
