At 6:02 p.m. on Tuesday, Mayor Victor Snover called the commission meeting to order. The meeting proceeded briskly until Employee Recognition.

Then Electric Department Director Ken George and city employee David Sparks stood up in the back of the room. George shared that Sparks achieved journeyman status as a lineman. Sparks beamed as the commissioners and meeting attendees gave him a round of applause.

Next, Richard Boone used the opportunity of Citizens Input to voice his concern about the Farmers Irrigation District (FID). According to Boone, FID is breaking city and county codes. He wants them to do their job, but do it correctly.

The commissioners approved the minutes for the workshop and commission meeting two weeks ago, and Resolution 2019-1114 which outlines the city’s procedures for notifying the public about meetings. They pulled item C, Aztec Motocross Operation Agreement due to some errors in the documents.

Jeff Blackburn, parks director, came before the commission and specified the edits he made to correct the item. Then the commissioners approved the agreement with AMX LLC, which plans to organize motocross events at the city’s dirt bike track.

The commissioners approved business item RFP 2019-672 which contracts Waste Management of New Mexico (WMNM) to provide trash collection services to Aztec and its residents. The city believes that WMNM’s higher rates are worth it since the city’s current provider, WCA-Transit Waste, has disappointed them with poor service.

After the city manager, commissioners, and a couple of department heads gave their reports, the meeting ended at 6:42 p.m. and the commissioners moved into a closed session.
