Hello Parents, In light of the one year anniversary of the shooting here at AHS a number of wonderful community events are being planned in and around Aztec this December. I wanted to also let you know that the school staff have been working hard to create a meaningful day for our students on December 7. The day will begin at 8am with a brief assembly, breakfast social with first responders, and a student group art project in the gym. Parents are certainly welcome to sign in at the gym and join first responders, staff and students on that morning. Our class schedule that day will begin at 9:30, and the school day will conclude at the regular time of 3:22pm. The school office understands that December 7 is going to be a difficult day for most, young and old alike. For many, it may also be a day of fond remembrance. The school and district are working to have several emotional supports at school for kids and staff on Dec. 7th, including extra counseling services and the therapy dogs. Parents can simply communicate with the school office by email or note if your child is struggling with being at school on this date. We do, however, hope to create a good experience at school that day and encourage students to attend. The learning theme of the day at AHS on Dec. 7th will be “Walk up – Step Up – Speak Up”. Our student leaders have been very involved in helping the office choose this theme. Teachers are planning to weave this theme into their lessons for the day and teach with engaging activities for the shortened class periods. If you have any questions about the school’s plans for Dec. 7 and how your child might be impacted, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email at [email protected] Sincerely, Dr. Warman Hall, Principal, Aztec High (505) 334-9414 ext.1310
