ST. PIUS TAKES A KNEE AT STATE Q-FINALS

by Jessica Selph, TALON

The Aztec Tigers came to the end of the road while battling it out against Saint Pius in Albuquerque on Saturday. The game remained pretty even with a run for a run but with the Tigers missing two extra point attempts and with a Saint Pius field goal in the fourth quarter the score lacked by six points at the games end. And what an intense game it was near the end. The fourth quarter saw Tiger fans on their feet hoping for just one more touchdown. With less than two minutes on the clock Pius intercepted but Aztec stopped them in four downs. The remaining time saw Aztec near the goal line but they're not quite able to get it in. St. Pius kneeled on the ball with 31 seconds remaining, sparking a final loss for the Tiger season. FINAL SCORE: St. Pius 31 Tigers 25.

Given the tough loss coach Stienfeldt is still happy with the boys and the way they played. He says "I think our offense did a great job of really going out there and making some plays and challenging their defense... Our defense, went out there and played phenomenal. Lights out...If we could've just gotten ourselves in a couple different situations, you know executed a little differently in those situations, what a different game that could have been. But as far as the way the boys played, I am absolutely proud of how hard they played."
