THE TURKEY REACHES OUT TO GIVE A PRESCHOOL STUDENT A HIGH FIVE AFTER THE RUN.

"This is big business cause we got a turkey to catch," said a McCoy Elementary preschool teacher as her students checked that their shoeslaces were secure. The preschoolers toed the starting line with the turkey. At Coach T's signal, they all took off running around the playground. The little Tigers chased the gobbler but, "That turkey is fast," said one preschooler.

The preschooler's turkey trot was the second of three fun runs McCoy Elementary students participated in on the Friday before Thanksgiving break. Kindergarteners and first graders chased the turkey for a half mile at 8:30 am, preschoolers at 9 am and 1 pm, and the second and third graders at 10:10 am.

Before the 10:10 run, the turkey eyed the students warily and asked for a head start. It was denied. He still managed to stay ahead of the speedy students during the mile run. Afterwards they called a hearty "Thank you!" to the turkey before he left.

Coach T explained why they did the turkey trots, "Because it's good for the students to know you can get out and do these things, go outside during vacation."
