Bakery & Grooming-

Photos and Story by TALON Staff

Aztec area pets and their owners have more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. Jesse Christman and her staff at Pawsivitively Bakery & Grooming is open for business at 1000 N. Main in Aztec to spoil the four-legged members of your family. Not just dogs and cats though, they want to meet the needs of all your house pets and have groomed goats, pot belly pigs and even trimmed lizard and bird nails. Christman explains, "We do a little bit of everything". Recognizing the connection between pets and their owners, Christman wants to provide services that keep pets clean, healthy and happy.

Pawsitively is not just a grooming business. Pet owners can purchase the natural pet grooming products used at the shop, CBD (Cannabidiol) products for pets and a wide selection of small batch pet treats. A refrigerated display case will offer freshly made organic treats and pamphlets will detail items available for special orders. Christman's vision for the future include a lounge that will be the space where pet parties are hosted, or where customers can simply enjoy a cup of coffee. She plans to offer the space for meetings of the Four Corners Purebred Rescue group that she is involved in. Customers will often find visiting foster pets available for adoption at the shop.

A proponent of the benefits of CBD products, Christman has Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and found that CBD products are a very effective method to treat pain. She was not tolerant of traditional pain medications and found that the side effects complicated her health issues. Recognizing this, she turned to CBD products for her aging chihuahua when he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and obviously experiencing pain. She observed a complete turnaround in his health and behavior, "CBD helps him that much!" Information about CBD treatment for medical conditions experienced by dogs and people will be available at the shop.

Because of her RA, Christman often felt isolated as a child because, "Not a lot of people want to deal with someone who couldn't run around". She feels this may have been the basis for her connection with animals, "Those were my friends". Described as a "dog magnet", Christman wonders if dogs can sense her RA. In spite of RA, she is in what she describes as a "good place" now. Finally finding an effective balance of traditional and non-traditional treatment that allows her to thrive as mother, business owner and animal advocate.

While Christman has lived in Farmington and Albuquerque she likes Aztec more, "Everything is nearby". She is excited to be part of Aztec's downtown and intends to host events, giveaways and raffles. A self-confessed "Christmas freak", she is looking forward to holiday festivities and planning to have Santa visit to be available for pictures with pets.

Pawsitively is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, she and the staff, "Try to work with everybody's schedule" and will arrange to meet customers earlier or stay later. They also offer pick up and drop off service and multiple dog discounts. Christman strives to do what is best for the pets and avoids overbooking. Christman shares, "People say that they treat the client's dogs like our own, but we really do", adding, "This is something that I do because I love doing it!
