McCoy

Our dedicated teachers are working harder than ever this year to ensure your child is receiving a quality education. In an effort to do this, McCoy is involved in implementing the 90 day plan, in which, we investigated areas where students are struggling academically and behaviorally over the past year. It was found that many students are struggling in the area of writing. To ensure student success in this area McCoy has targeted one area in which students will have the opportunity to practice and prove that their writing skills have increased. The focused writing areas is narrative. Writing rubrics have been created to ensure data integrity across grade levels. Your child will be assessed three times this year to ensure they are making adequate progress in writing. Another area of focus for our 90 day plan is in the area of Data Driven Instruction. Teachers use student data to drive their instruction to ensure enrichment and remediation are appropriate. Teachers monitor student progress to ensure growth is being made through istation, interims, and other appropriate classroom assessments. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher for more information.

K-3rd grade students will take part in McCoy’s quarterly interim or ESGI assessments beginning next week. These assessments are directly tied to the teacher’s pacing guide in Math and English/ Language Arts and will give teachers targeted information on students’ performance for the first 9 weeks period. Teachers will share this information with you at Parent Teacher Conferences at the end of the month.

It’s time to grab a great book to read with your student. Our annual Book Fair will begin on Monday, October 22nd and run through Friday, October 26th. The fair will be open during school hours and after school until 3:45 pm. Don’t forget we will be open during Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday the 25th from 8:00 am until 6:30 pm and Friday the 26th from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. Not only is this a great way to reward your student for their hard work this semester but, 50% of all of the profits go right back into our school’s library for the purchasing of new and exciting books!
