Photo and story by Pilar Owens, TALON

Danielle Montano's parents are American, she grew up in Aztec, attended Aztec schools, graduated from San Juan College, and now lives and works in Farmington. So why did she become an American at the naturalization ceremony at Aztec Ruins on Friday?

"I just have a Canadian birth certificate," said Montano. When she was born her parents were living in Canada because her paternal grandparents live there. When Montano was six months old, her mom's homesickness became unbearable. So the couple and their baby girl took a plane back to the United States.

Since she has a Canadian birth certificate, Montano's driver's license says "Not For Federal Purposes" which she acknowledged "probably looks really strange..."

As a new citizen, the first thing she wanted to do was eat lunch, and then get a real driver's license.
