The Aztec Board of Education met Sept. 13. All members were present except Roger Collins. The minutes were approved at 6 p.m.

Several Koogler students were honored for their achievements last year. Many proud family members and teachers attended. Great job students! AHS and Park Avenue teachers informed the board about Artsonia and Journalism projects. Great job, teachers!

Several student trips were requested and approved, including a trip to Las Vegas, NV by the AHS wresting team, a JROTC trip to Durango, a AHS softball trip to Phoenix, and four AHS Career Readiness trips.

Eight Board Policy review issues were addressed. Included were reports/progress, parent conferences, promotion and retention of students, acceleration, graduate requirements, assignment of students to classes and grade levels, professional staff orientation and training, admission of homeless students, and staff conduct. Have fun!

The superintendent, personnel, principals/teachers pursuing excellence, food service, transportation, and district safety reports were presented by board members Jimmy Dusenbery, Wayne Ritter, Ryan Lane, and Fran Dobey, and Superintendent Kirk Carpenter and Deputy Superintendent Tania Prokop.

In October, the board will attend a NMSBA meeting at Central Consolidated on October 3, and the next board meeting will be held Oct. 11 in the AMSD Board Room, Aztec. The board meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
