QB #16 Zach Taylor looks for the pass

by Jessica Selph, TALON

The Aztec Tigers football season opener was on the road last Friday in Gallup facing the Miyamura Patriots. This years team is a young one but they came prepared to run with the challenge. Tiger offense came out strong with an 80 yard touchdown in the first quarter by Dyllon Whitaker, who earned offensive player of the game. Zach Taylor, who stepped in as quarter back for his first year landed 20 out of 28 throws and a few solid runs for himself. Our defense suffered a few setbacks, allowing the Patriots to score three touchdowns throughout the night but held it together for many yard stopping plays. Chad Watkins took home the title for defensive player of the game. The final score was 49-20 with the Tigers securing the win. We are now 1-0 for the season with Clovis coming up next. Join us at the Fred Cook memorial stadium for our first home game this Friday night at 7 pm.
