Jeff Blackburn grew up in San Juan County and graduated from Farmington High School. For 11 years he has worked in Aztec's Parks department, and recalls being rewarded one time with a bald eagle flying over him as he shoveled snow on the bridge near Hartman Park. Two weeks ago, he started his job as Aztec's Parks and General Services Director after being interim director for a year. His duties are to maintain Aztec's city buildings and parks, and to manage the people who help him. Blackburn himself cares for the baskets of flowers and flower beds along Main Street and near Aztec Restaurant.

Many people already know Angela Watkins. She started working at the library when it was located in the city complex. She and the library staff, whom she is extremely proud of, offer many ways for people to learn and to connect with others, including through electronics. During the TALON interview, a man gave Watkins a bag of fish he had caught. She said people give back, whether its through conversation--or fish! She invites everyone to the library and to give feedback. Thinking of the future she said there's "a lot of work ahead transforming into the best little library this side of the Pecos."

For 38 years Steve Morse worked as a consulting engineer in Pennsylvania. He and his wife love to hike. They were hiking in the four corners and decided it would be a nice place to retire. But then they thought, why wait? So Morse looked for a job and applied for the Public Works Director position in Aztec. The city hired him. On Monday he started the challenging task of learning about the needs of the water, sewer, and road systems, as well as the needs of the people. In Pennsylvania his commute took over 90 minutes. Now he enjoys a three minute commute.
