Bet you didn't know Farmington has a swim team. They call themselves the Four Corners Aquatic Team (FCAT) and claim the kraken as their mascot. The 50 or so members range in age from 6-19 and are divided into four groups: Novice, Age Group 1, Age Group 2, and Senior.

Althea and her brother Zenon McCluhan of Aztec, and Aili Talcott of Flora Vista, are part of the Senior group. The Senior group "swims the most and trains the hardest" according to Head Coach Mike McCluhan, who said they practice five days a week year round. They are currently in the long course season, where swimmers compete in 50 meter long lanes from April-August.

The McCluhans and Talcott, along with four team members, swam at the New Mexico Age Group State Championships July 26-29 in Las Cruces, NM. Coach McCluhan said all seven swimmers "raced with guts" and made him proud.

Talcott raced in multiple events for the girls' 13-14 age group and took state in three. She won the 50, 100, and 200 meter breaststroke, with times of 36.48, 1:22.89, and 2:57.38 respectively.

McCluhan (Althea) also raced in multiple events, including the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke with Aili, and placed third in both. McCluhan (Zenon) raced in multiple events for the boys' 11-12 age group, and placed highest in the 50 meter breaststroke, where he won third.

Next for these swimmers is the Western Zone Age Group Championships August 8-11 in Roseville, California. They'll help represent New Mexico against 12 other states.
