According to a July 1 press release: Marion Caldwell from The First Tee of San Juan County has been selected to attend the Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills and Leadership Academy in East Lansing, Mich. July 25-31. Caldwell will join more than 90 junior golfers from The First Tee, ages 14-17, to participate in this national event.

During the week, Caldwell will learn from and interact with the top coaches in The First Tee network and meet a variety of teens from around the country.

Caldwell will be a sophmore at Farmington High School and plays on the Scorpion Girls Golf Team. She has been active in The First Tee for seven years and volunteers her time working with younger participants in the program.

"I'm looking forward to meeting other First Tee participants from around the country and learning new skills. I love golf, but above all I love new experiences. I am so grateful and happy to be selected," said Caldwell.

"Mari encapsulates everything The First Tee stands for. We are so proud of her and how hard she has worked to earn this prestigious honor. She is a role model for the younger participants in our program and we are excited for her to have this experience!" said Tom Yost, Programming Director of The First Tee of San Juan County.
