Shouts of "Bingo!" "Me! Me!" and similar phrases rang out every other minute as golfers heard their raffle ticket numbers called by Mike Patch, the Executive Director of Aztec Boys and Girls Club. Then two Boys and Girls Club girls took turns delivering prizes to winners.

"There are good people all over town that help support us," said Patch, as he looked over the prizes on the table before the raffle started. The raffle ended a scramble style golf tournament at Aztec Municipal Golf Course, benefitting the Boys and Girls Club. According to their website (www.aztecbg-club.com), "Over 100 kids a day take part in programs meant to build strong character, healthy bodies and sharp minds." Their website also states that the club is "not federal, state, city or county funded."

The club relies on money from grants, donations, fundraisers, and membership fees to operate. This year, the golf tournament and other fundraisers have been more important than ever due to funding cuts.

As usual, the community responded; Patch hoped to raise $10,000, and after the festivities ended, he figured they'd met that goal.
