After the Founders' Day festivities last September, the Aztec Museum Association Board of Directors compared the cost of the event with the lack of founders to celebrate and low attendance. They started talking about change.

"We have to figure out an event that meets the needs of the community," Board President Dale Anderson told the TALON in a recent phone interview. While the board isn't sure what the event will be, they do have two areas they want to focus on in the meantime: the museum, and local children. The board wants to have more programs for children like the recent Aztec Through Time camp. Also, the board wants to extend the months the museum is open to later in the fall, with events for both children and adults.

Anderson stressed that the museum would close without the support of the city and the community. The city owns the museum building and leases it to the board for $1 per year, and community members donate time and money to the museum.
