School Board President Roger Collins rapped his gavel at 6pm on Monday, July 16, to call the meeting to order. Also present were Vice President Jimmy Dusenberry, Secretary Fran Doby, and Members Wayne Ritter and Ryan Lane. After the board members approved the agenda, they remembered to say the Pledge of Allegiance and the New Mexico Pledge. They quickly approved the minutes from the last meeting. Then Justis Hughs received a scholarship presented by NM School Board Region I President, Priscilla Manuelito. The members returned to business, and discussed the items on the Policy Review list, including Board Policy EEB Business and Personal Transportation Services, which spells out how employees should use electronics while driving school vehicles. Next, they discussed some of the items on the Board Policy Approval list. They unanimously voted to have the items, except Board Policy JLCG Do Not Resuscitate Orders, updated or added to the Aztec Policy Manual. Superintendent Kirk Carpenter announced that Ms. Potter, Mr. Hill, and first responders will be honored at the Connie Mack World Series for their actions on December 7. He discussed plans to close Zia Street during school hours. Deputy Superintendent Tania Prokop reported ways they are trying to recruit more teachers, including a Facebook ad. Member Lane recognized Evelyn Garcia for the extra hours she’s been working as the Director of Finance for Aztec Schools. The meeting adjourned a few minutes later at 8:25pm.

The next meeting is August 16th in the Board Room at 6pm.
