The City of Aztec held a workshop regarding single stream recycling on Tuesday, June 26th at the Aztec City Hall. During the meeting it was discussed whether or not the City should implement a curbside recycle service through Transit Waste. As with many additional services, a minimal charge, less than $5, would be required from residents within city limits. Aztec Mayor, Victor Snover, proved to be a major proponent for the new service. Currently, residents can recycle items like corrugated cardboard, yard waste, plastic containers and even glass bottles at the recycle center in Aztec, just behind the Boys and Girls Club, but having a curbside service would make recycling more convenient and would hopefully encourage more citizens to participate. It was noted that Aztec residents utilize the recycle center often, which leaves collection bins too full to accept new items at times. This causes perfectly good recyclables to be discarded into regular trash bins where they remain in our landfills for many many years. No changes were implemented at this time but it was decided that a survey should be mailed out in monthly utility bills as a way to recieve community feedback regarding the matter.
