Lieutenant Randon Matthews will begin his first day as Bloomfield’s Interim Chief on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018. Incoming Chief Matthews has served as a policeman for one year with the Farmington Police Department and over 12 years with the Bloomfield Police Department. He and his family are greatly involved in sports and outdoor hiking.

Over the next few months Chief Matthews will be focusing on helping to improve and promote local businesses, strengthening their relationships with the police department. This kind of networking will be integral to the goals of community involvement and policing. Incidences of crimes and fraud frequently happen at business locations. Better communication incorporating the use of of social media between citizens and the police department will assist in solving crimes in the city. Also, officers will work with Neighborhood Watch Groups, attend those meetings as well as being assigned to one of the newly organized four sections of Bloomfield. These are all efforts to bring the community together including the police department.

“Coffee With Your Cops” inviting citizens to participate in working through problems together will further this effort. The first meeting will take place Wednesday, June 20th at 8am at the Bloomfield Police Department on 711 Ruth Lane. An agenda for each weekly meeting will be in place with information on the current number of felonies committed, arrests, and burglaries. A question/answer session for citizens will also be included along with citizen input.
