FIRE UPDATE

As of Wednesday afternoon the 416 fire in Durango, Colorado had increased to nearly 28,000 acres with 15% containment. The nearby Burro fire covers 3,000 acres at 0% containment. Severe drought conditions and high temps, resulted in the San Juan National Forest issuing a Stage III Fire Restriction on June 12th causing the forest to shut down for the first time in it’s existence.

6.12.18- Aztec, NM - CITY OF AZTEC BANS FIREWORKS AND OPEN BURNING

The Aztec City Commission approved an Emergency Ban on Fireworks and Open Burning.

No fireworks will be allowed in the Aztec City limits.

Open Burning is defined as:

1. Any open burning on public and private property;

2. Camp and cooking fires using solid fuels such as charcoal briquettes, wood, paper, etc.on public or private property;

3. Outdoor fireplaces using solid fuels such as charcoal briquettes, wood, paper, etc. on public and private property;

4. Use of luminaries, farolitos, and/or candles outside of buildings on public and private property;

5. Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame on public property;

6. Smoking on public property; and

7. Discarding of cigarettes/cigars from any vehicle on public and private property.

The Aztec City Commission has determined that for the safety of citizens and property that a ban on open fires and fireworks be implemented until conditions have changed.

Notifications to the public will be sent out by the City of Aztec.
