Smoke and haze from the regional fires continue to settle on residents in the region causing respiratory issues for young and old. TALON met with local health providers for some much needed information on the subject in this issue. Closing windows at night can help, wearing a mask may reduce particulates but will not offset harmful gases in the smoke. Keep a close eye on very young, infirm, and very old loved ones.

As of Wednesday afternoon the 416 fire in Durango, Colorado had increased to nearly 28,000 acres with 15% containment. The nearby Burro fire covers 3,000 acres at 0% containment. Severe drought conditions and high temps, resulted in the San Juan National Forest issuing a Stage III Fire Restriction on June 12th causing the forest to shut down for the first time in it’s existence.
