Down-Town Re-Vitalization (MRA) public workshop

The Aztec City Commission is holding a public workshop on the draft Downtown Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan at 6:00-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2018. The meeting will be held at City Hall, 201 W. Chaco Street. The City's consultant, Consensus Planning, will be making a presentation of the draft MRA Plan and taking comments. The draft Downtown MRA Plan can be reviewed or downloaded from the City's web site: http://www.aztecnm.gov/

The Downtown MRA Plan identifies redevelopment strategies and projects that are intended to spur public/private partnerships, reinvestment into existing properties, move downtown Aztec towards a more prosperous future, while honoring history and character of Aztec. The redevelopment strategies and projects proposed by the MRA Plan came out of the two-day workshop held in January 2018.

The Downtown MRA generally covers Main Avenue from Safford Street to Llano Street, west side of Ash Avenue to Mesa Verde Avenue between Chaco Street and Chuska Street. The Downtown MRA was designated in 2015 by the Aztec City Commission based on a report that documented existing physical and economic conditions within Downtown Aztec that contribute to blight and impair the social and economic well-being of the community. A MRA Plan provides the means to address those conditions through rehabilitation and redevelopment efforts.
