April 20, 2018

Over the weekend, we held the 38th Annual Aztec Youth Wrestling Tournament in Lillywhite Gym. Twenty-two of our high school wrestlers gave up their Saturday to set up and also officiated in over 900 matches for 570+ youth wrestlers. Once again, they did an outstanding job! We received many compliments from opposing coaches and parents. Officiating gives these young wrestlers the opportunity to see the sport from the referees point, and helps them to appreciate all aspects of being on the mat, while giving back to the program.

Awards received:

5 of our wrestlers were awarded Navajo Times Newspaper Wrestling honors:

Senior Josiah Griego 120# State Champ

Junior Christian Robison 126# State Champ

Sophomore Zane Chapman 138# 3rd in State

Junior Logan Thorpe 170# 3rd in State

Wrestlers of the Year:

Boys: State Champ Josiah Griego Girls: State Champ Bella Wells

Coach of the Year: Monte Maxwell
