Aztec Museum Discovery: Monday is busy day!

March 16, 2018

Michelle Lindsay presented the 2017 annual report on behalf of the Aztec Museum Association in February. Notably, the museum recognized Monday as an important traffic day and is working to extend hours to capture those additional visitors.

The Museum is also working to establish a part time supervisor position to help expand services. The Museum board estimates an $18,000 annual deficit in operations at this time, and is working to rectify this shortage to ensure viability.

Membership letters and renewals were sent enclosed in the City of Aztec utility bills.

The Museum applied and received a $7,000 grant from the NM Historical Society, historical records advisory board. The grant was used to digitize the donations from the Farmington Daily Times. Total project costs were over $15,000.

Additionally the museum applied and received a grant from the City of Aztec. This grant allowed the museum to operate for an extended month in 2017, perform some needed repairs and conduct a strategic planning session for the upcoming 2018 season.

The idea of extended operating hours to capture more of the late trending visitors was one item gleaned from the planning session data. Data indicated over 2,300 visitors during the 2017 year, with many of those attending in the later hours.
