DEAR TALON

Dear Editor:

I am probably going to anger some people but this is an important topic and I can no longer stay silent. Bob Dylan wrote a song called “Blowin’ in the Wind” and in it he asks two very important questions. The 1st is “how many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?”. The 2nd is “how many deaths will it take ‘til he knows that too many people have died?”.

We all should be asking these questions and demanding answers from our congress and president concerning gun control. Now before you jump off the deep end, yes I believe in the second amendment and no I am not a member of the NRA nor do I want to be.

The definition of assault rifle reads: a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic or semi-automatic rifle designed for infantry use. I ask this, why are civilians (especially children) using assault rifles and against children and others - are we at war with ourselves? No one not in the military or police force should be using assault rifles, period. War should be waged against those criminals who use assault rifles and their guns seized. In other words, unless you are military or police, you do not need an assault rifle period. That’s how I feel and I don’t apologize for my opinion. I served three years in the military to protect your and my rights and I will not back down now.

Stand up people and demand change and demand the protection of our children in their schools. No longer be silent - and remember “how many times?”.
