Aztec School District Superintendent Kirk Carpenter has announced plans to renovate 2,600 square feet of classroom space in the 900 wing of AHS where much of the school shooting incident occurred. The remodeled classrooms will be developed into an open learning commons, and will be dedicated to the memory of Casey Jordan-Marquez and Francisco “Paco” Fernandez, victims of the tragic school shooting on December 7th.

The area will be equipped with portable computer carts, charging stations, and other tools to provide students a relaxed learning environment. The new look will also be something of change and a new beginning.

“We feel it is important to reconfigure the learning environment to honor the memory of our students who sacrificed their lives to save many others,” Mr. Carpenter said.

The plan is to use some school funding to complete the project, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with those costs.

“We realize that people want to do whatever they can to help and if people want to donate they can. However, we don’t want to take anything away from other accounts that were set up for the families,” Carpenter said.

Please note, the GoFundMe page is not sanctioned by the Aztec Municipal School District.
