Captain Troy Morris of the Aztec Police Department, and Gary Zuniga, social studies teacher and coach from Koogler Middle School, joined the prayer circle at Aztec High School on Dec. 11.

Aztec teachers, staff, and coaches met at the flag pole at Aztec High School on Monday morning, Dec. 11, to "take back our campus" from the evil that took over last week. Members of the public were invited to join the school staff for prayer in front of AHS, and an estimated 200 people took the opportunity. The community held hands, and said prayers for the youth of our community who have been forever changed by last Thursday's school shooting. Fritz Polk, teacher and local minister, led the crowd in prayer. His words were followed by prayers from several other members of the community, including ministers, and teachers.

The message was specific ... We can't let fear win! We will take back our schools!

The short assembly at the flag pole, which holds our flags at half mast, was followed by the same ceremony at each of the other schools in Aztec, as the teachers arrived to reclaim personal items that were left behind last week.
