Roswell marked the end of the road for our Aztec Tigers as they succumbed to a 42-35 loss against the Coyotes on Saturday, November 18th. The boys fought hard but could not hold on to their early lead during the second half. One loss during playoffs and you’re out for good. Still, the Tigers end the season with their heads held high. Head coach Matthew Steinfeldt explains why.

“Our 2017 football season ended with considerable positive momentum as our team won six of our last eight games behind one of the top offenses in the state. Our QB, Cody Smith, finished the season as the top throwing QB in 5A and a top 10 finish for rushing yards. Three of our receivers (Justin Black, Sebastian McNeal and Zack Taylor) finished in the top seven wide receivers in the state for receptions and receiving yards. Our team was able to advance to the quarterfinals, losing only by seven points on the road to Roswell. Our Tigers played with passion and represented the core values of our community. This was a team to be excited about and to be proud of. We will lose some great senior players who have recorded a 16-2 district record over their 4 years playing at Aztec High School. We return a great, core nucleus of the next generation of great Aztec players. The future is extremely bright for our football program.”
