Aztec City Commissioners met on Nov. 14 for their regular meeting. Mayor Sally Burbridge was absent from the meeting in order to attend the National League of Cities meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Commissioners voted unanimously to reject all bids received for Interim City Manager Recruitment Services. Commissioners decided to retain Steve Mueller as Interim City Manager until the hiring process is completed, after elections in March. This vote was the only business item listed on the evening’s agenda.

Jessica Anderson spoke during the citizens input portion of the meeting. She said she wanted to express “an objection to the process that took place,” when the decision was made to move the Encore exercise class from the Aztec Senior Center to Bloomfield. She said there were 43 seniors enrolled in the class and she felt that the move went against the city’s vision plan which includes “a safe, livable community, effective local and regional partnerships, and citizen involvement.”

Commissioners Sheri Sipe responded that the city has met with the Encore director and is still having discussions about bringing more programs to the Aztec Senior Center.

Pam Gathings also spoke during citizens input. She told commissioners that her group of inventors has been utilizing the HUB in Aztec. She said she wanted commissioners to know how nice the HUB facility is and how nice it is for their group to use. “I’m from Bloomfield, but we don’t have a facility like that there,” she said.
