November is National Native American Heritage month. It is a time to celebrate the rich ancestry and traditions of all Native American cultures. This year Lydia Rippey has planned a special week to highlight the traditions and cultures of our local tribes and to provide our Native American students an opportunity to share about their culture. On Tuesday, Nov. 14 (2:00 – 2:30 pm), KMS and AHS dancers and singers will be performing outside in our field, weather permitting. Wednesday, Nov. 15 (8:15 – 2:15 pm), will be Native American Traditional Dress day. We encourage all Native American students to wear their traditional clothing in recognition of their heritage. Local presenters will give show and tell presentations throughout the day to share Native American traditions, art, and culture with the students.

Friday, Nov. 17, will be the Rock your Mocs at the Turkey Trot! A fun day for students to wear their moccasins, this is also our first Lydia Rippey Turkey Trot. We will be creating a moccasin craft school wide for all students to participate. The Turkey Trot starts at 1 PM. Entry fee for each family is a nonperishable food item to stock our community cupboard. Everyone is welcome!

McCoy Elementary: To help keep our abandoned critters warm and fed, The McCoy Ave. Elementary School Student Ambassadors are conducting a pet food drive for the Aztec NM Humane Society from November 6th through November 15th. Every student that donates a can of dog food, cat food, or an old towel will receive a Tootsie Pop as a thank you. The class that donates the most items will receive a special reward. Contact Mr. Jesse Harrison @ [email protected] for further details.

The McCoy Elementary Harvest Carnival will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 AM - 2 PM. Everyone is invited to come join in the games, win prizes and buy goodies from the concessions.
