Earlier this month, Mosaic Academy students participated in the Battle of the Books, an event that was held at the Aztec Public Library on October 10, 2017. All of the children's parents were invited to the battle. The two groups competing in this event were "Readers of The Lost Ark" and "Book of Legends." Each team was responsible for reading seven books. The books included: Book Scavenger, Zora and Me, Doll Bones, Greetings from Nowhere, We Can't All Be Rattlesnakes, Jake, and The Tail of Emily Windsnap. The Battle of the Books was a choice during Mosaic University (MU). MU is an academic competition for learning; it is very fun but it's not like a free time because students are still learning.

During MU, students read the books they choose from the overall list. When it is time for the battle, students are asked a question about one of the books. If you get the answer correct you get 10 points for your team. This year, the "Readers of the Lost Ark" won the competition.
