San Juan County's Booth at the New Mexico State Fair

Every county in our state has an abundance of resources, whether natural, agricultural, mineral or industrial. Each year the NM State Fair hosts a highly competitive contest that showcases the individual counties and their unique qualities, products and resources in display booths that are located in the Agricultural Building at the Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. The San Juan County Cooperative Extension Service Agents, Shelly Hathorn (County Program Director and 4-H Agent) and Bonnie Hopkins (Agriculture Agent) work each year to create and assemble a county booth before the opening of the Fair in September. The 2017 booth featured agricultural products from vendors at our local Growers' Markets and Sutherland Farms near Aztec, along with wool and alfalfa products, home canned goods, wines and honey from local apiaries. Our outdoor adventure areas, golf courses, hunting and fishing, oil, gas and coal production, ranching, farming, and brewing industry were among the many county interests and opportunities highlighted.

This year the NM State Fair county booth judges gave first place honors to the San Juan County Booth, which is sponsored by the San Juan County Commission.
