MAYOR ACCEPTS AWARD FOR AZTEC

September 29, 2017

Sally Burbridge, Mayor of Aztec, recently attended the International Economic Development Council Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While there she was presented with an award for Excellence in Economic Development. The City of Aztec received the 2017 Bronze Award in the "Real Estate Re-development and Re-use" category, for the HUB project in Aztec. Warren Unsicker, Director at Four Corners Economic Development received an award for their "Real People, Real Jobs" initiative.

"We were the only New Mexico communities to be recognized," Mayor Burbridge said. She also said this is an international conference so it was a huge honor to receive the award.

The HUB began as a vacant building a little over a year ago. The city leased the building from a local church and set about remodeling. The Aztec Chamber of Commerce now calls the HUB home, as well as 550 Brewing, and several businesses upstairs.

The "Real People, Real Jobs" initiative is in response to the people in our community who are suffering from the economic impacts of historically low natural gas and oil prices.
