Talon News - Good Local News

The Fourth of July has passed, but another independence was observed earlier this summer when Juneteenth was celebrated in Farmington at Boyd Park. Juneteenth commemorates June 19th,1865 when news arrived at Galveston, Texas, that the enslaved were now free. Amazing, two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Juneteenth celebration in Farmington, brought the community together to share and enjoy talks, music, kids games, and barbeque, a gathering to honor and celebrate the African American community.
