National Night out was a huge success last year, with thousand of people coming out to show that Aztec fights together to keep crime out of our town

National Night Out is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, July 18th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Minium Park (behind Safeway in Aztec).

National Night Out is the one time of year that the citizens of Aztec, our Aztec business community and the Aztec Police Department come together to give the boot to crime. We want to get to know each other - citizens, business, and police alike. By getting to know and trust each other we can become better partners in our joint effort to fight and rid crime from our community.

The events are designed to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs;

Strengthen neighborhoods and local business spirit; and

Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Come out and meet and greet our Officers. Participating in National Night Out is an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program that promotes neighborhood and local business spirit and police-community partnerships in our efforts in maintain a safe community. It is a great way to meet your neighbors and local businesses and enjoy some good food, games, entertainment and become familiar with members of our local police department. Our event ends at 7:00 p.m. and we then encourage all of our neighborhood to display outdoor lights and front porch vigils until 9:00 p.m. to ensure the criminals are aware of our fight against crimes.

Our 2016 National Night Out event last year was a huge success. We had over 100 local businesses that participated by setting up a booth. This year we have 110 local businesses participating.

Our neighborhoods and local businesses are also watching out for each other to insure that crime will not be tolerated. Approximately 3000 citizens participated in our event which took place at our beautiful Minium Park. We held various activities, contests and games, one of which was our famous donut eating contest. We had well over 100 contestants including our Police Chief, School Resource Officer and our City Manager.

Come and join us in beautiful Minium Park and share a night of free entertainment, music, food, family & fun and help us send a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods and local businesses in the City of Aztec will not tolerate crime.

We want criminals to know that they are not welcome here. We do that by our officers meeting and greeting as many citizens as they can that evening, building trust as we go, so we can keep our community as safe as possible.

And it doesn't hurt to have a little fun while we are saying "Good-Bye to Crime in our City."
