This summer, in collaboration with the Kellogg Foundation, the law clerks of the Southwest Women’s Law Center are hosting community events in four New Mexico counties. One of the events will be July 14 in Farmington, at the Farmington Civic Center, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. The goals for the event are to raise awareness about the issues of poverty, alcoholism, unemployment, healthcare and domestic abuse. The event is a community game night coupled with a non-profit resource fair focusing on issues of economic development, healthcare, domestic abuse and community well being.

Community members are invited to share any specific legal or policy issue that they have encountered personally or that they feel is affecting the community as a whole. The Southwest Women’s Law Center will listen and discuss these issues with attendees, and incorporate these conversations into the Law Center’s advocacy efforts. This is a unique opportunity for community members to contribute directly to policy initiatives and legal change. The Southwest Women’s Law Center advocates for economic and social justice for women and children in state courts through their One Woman, One Case, Once a Year project.
