DUFB Tokens to use at the Farmers Market

Farm fresh produce and products, friendly farmers, good neighbors, and live music await you every Wednesday afternoon this summer and fall. Opening day of the Aztec Farmers' Market was on July 5th with free plants for the first 100 customers (thanks to Pam and David Elder of Elder's Greenhouse and Garden) and bottle raised goat babies for kids of all ages to pet (thanks to Vickie Robinson of Udder Indulgence). Always thankful to the Frazer family, we are once again located in the parking lot of the Westside Plaza (1409- W. Aztec Blvd.) from 4:30 to 7 pm. Look for greens of all types (kale, chard, lettuce, beet greens), zucchini and other summer squashes, peas, potatoes, onions, garlic, turnips, fennel, radishes, strawberries, scallions, tomatoes, and herbs at our first market, with new vegetables and fruit joining the tasty medley each week during the season. In addition, there will be honey, fresh eggs (including duck and quail from Unique Le Natural), salsa, jam, cheese, meat, fresh baked goods, frybread, plants, soap, lotion, and other goodies to round out your shopping basket. At the Aztec Farmers' Market, all vendors grow or create their products within a 100 mile radius of Aztec. You will discover fresh, seasonal produce and more and get to know the local, hardworking farmers, market gardeners, and backyard hobbyists behind it all.

EBT/SNAP is welcome at the Aztec Farmers' Market so don't forget to shop the market for all your grocery needs. SNAP customers simply need to stop by the Information Booth where volunteers will swipe their card for whatever desired amount and they will receive wooden tokens to spend with market vendors. In addition, SNAP customers will double their dollars with the Double Up Food Bucks program (DUFB; more info at http://www.DoubleUpNM.org), which will be funded and in place at the Aztec Farmers' Market and the Farmington Growers' Market until 2019. For every $2 spent, SNAP recipients will receive a match of $2 in silver tokens (no limit to amount matched!) to be spent on fresh fruits and vegetables. Both markets also accept debit.

WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program checks are welcome at all fresh produce vendor booths displaying the lime green participation signs. If you are low-income and pregnant, breastfeeding, or a mother with infants or children 5 years of age and under, you may be eligible to receive these coupons. Contact NM Dept. of Health WIC office at (505) 327-6263 for more information. Interested low-income seniors (60 and over) may also be eligible to participate in the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Programs where they also receive coupons to use at our local farmers' markets for fresh produce and honey. Contact ECHO Food Bank at (505) 325-8222 to see if you are eligible and for more information.

The Aztec Farmers' Market is always looking for more vendors of vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, livestock products, plants, cut flowers, bread, jams, and other farm products. If you sing, dance, play an instrument, or have some hidden talent to share with the Aztec community, the Aztec Farmers' Market could just be your forum and we'd like to hear from you. For more information about the Aztec Farmers' Market, becoming a vendor, providing entertainment, volunteering, etc. please contact Pauline Pao at 334-3290 or email her at: [email protected] Don't forget to visit the other area markets in Farmington Bloomfield, and Hogback. By supporting our farmers' markets, you will buy fresh, eat local, and build community. See you at the Markets!
