AZTEC WRESTLING 2017 SUMMER TIDBITS

Top three teams at the Aztec Summer Duals: (l to r) Camp Verde AZ, Aztec, Spearfish SD

After nine days of summer Wrestling, and 1,130 miles of travel, the high school Wrestling team was able to wrestle over 450 matches and go 16-1 in duals. This is like an additional season of Wrestling in the books. The experience and confidence gained will be felt this winter as the Tigers close out the Summer program for this year. It started with a dual against Desert Ridge, continued into the 4th Annual Aztec Tiger Summer Duals, onto the 11th Annual Las Vegas Summer Duals, and finished at the Weekend Wars held in Camp Verde, Arizona.

While at the Aztec Duals, we were able to go 6-0 with wins over Spearfish, SD, Camp Verde, AZ, Manzano, NM and several local combined schools. In Las Vegas, Nevada, we went 9-1. We had wins over Madison Ohio, Lee Williams, AZ, Regis CO, Palo Verde, NV, and four California schools. Our lone loss was a close one to Champions and #12 ranked Victor Valley, CA. In Camp Verde, each wrestler was able to get five or more matches against a host of different schools.

As a program, we were able to see how bonding together and pushing each other can produce positive results. Once again, the proof of our labor will be measured during the winter season. We will have one more summer event, as Palo Verde travels through on July 27th at 6:00 pm for a match-up. As always, our room is open to anyone wanting to watch or participate.

Aztec Community Wrestling Facility Building Fund report: Currently we are at $114,000.00 cash in the bank raised toward the $200,000.00 needed to build the new 100x50 Wrestling room. We have $40,000 in in-kind gifting as well. The plan is to break ground this year, but we need to get to $150,000.00 cash, so much more work toward this is in progress and if anyone wants to help, call 505-334-2096 for more information. This will be a building dedicated to developing all local youth in the entire area, for our future leaders. Any donations can be sent to the Aztec Citizens Bank: made out to Aztec Wrestling Program Building Fund, or sent to 106 Willow Lane, Aztec, NM 87410. We are a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization.
