Earl Sullivan

Earl Sullivan

April 19, 1929 - Sept. 28, 2016

Earl Bruce Sullivan, of Aztec, NM, passed away on September 28, 2016, in the care of family in Tucson AZ. Earl was born on April 19, 1929 in Denver CO and at a young age was adopted by Bruce and Marguerite Sullivan of Durango CO. He was raised as a cowboy who had a deep love for horses, was highly skilled at roping and ranch management and enjoyed working with people. Earl spent most of his life in the Four Corners area, living in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. He led an eventful life as rancher, rodeo cowboy, race horse trainer, carpenter, trailer park manager, and jack of all trades as his business card once read. Along the way Earl made many friends, each of whom meant a great deal to him. Earl was known for his skill with horses and enjoyment of friends as many stories will reflect. Earl will be forever remembered as a true cowboy, a man of his word, and the life of the party.

Earl is predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Louise Sullivan; parents, Bruce Sullivan and Marguerite Frame; and daughters Earleen Blakemore Sullivan and Kelly Harlan Sullivan. He is survived by daughters, Margi Sullivan and husband Dan Korch of Tucson AZ, Catharine Silva of San Diego CA, Marci and husband Wes Williams also of San Diego; grandchildren R. Danell and husband David Zawaski of Moon PA, Mindy and husband Brian Roman of Pueblo CO, Katarina Ryanne Korch, Ian Alexander Korch, Lorelei Davan Korch, and Monte Arnold; great grandchildren, Evelyn Sullivan Zawaski, Jacklyn Rose Zawaski, Brock Roman, Brandt Roman, Teryn Arnold, and Neena Arnold.

A celebration of Earl's life will be held at Rubio's Mexican Restaurant, 116 S. Main Ave, Aztec NM on June 15, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Friends are invited to stop in and share memories with family.

Graveside services will be held at Florida Cemetery, 2061 County Road 225, Durango CO on June 16, at 2pm. To send pictures and memories of Earl to his family, please email [email protected]

Robert I. Gilkey

Phyllis T. Gilkey

Aug. 18, 1929 - May 11, 2017

Robert I. Gilkey of Aztec passed away on March 30, 2017 followed by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis T. Gilkey, who passed on May 11, 2017. Robert was born on November 15, 1927 in Syracuse, NY to Clarence and Naomi GIlkey. Phyllis was also born in Syracuse, NY on August 18, 1929 to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Towne. The Gilkeys married on April 1, 1950 and were together for 67 years. In 1959 they loaded up their young family and moved west to Durango. Robert worked for the Gas Company of Colorado. Phyllis was a realtor and hosted a talk show on KREZ TV. Both were members of the Civil Air Patrol and Search and Rescue in Durango from 1962-1990. Phyllis was involved in the Chamber of Commerce in Durango and promotion of Purgatory Ski Area. They later bought Bob and Bill's Trading Post in Bondad, where they lived and worked for many years. After selling the Trading Post, Robert and Phyllis moved to Aztec and operated Frontier Sports, selling black powder guns, skis and bikes to local residents. Phyllis was very active in the Aztec Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Association. She was named Aztec Citizen of the Year in 2005. Robert and Phyllis are survived by sons Steven, Kevin (Kim) and David (Carrie); grandchildren Erin, Jenny, Michael, Brittany, Ryan (Danielle), Landon, Mitchell and two great grandchildren. They are also survived by Robert's brother William (Shirley) Gilkey. A graveside service for Robert has occurred at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Services for Phyllis are pending. She will also be buried at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Lelia M. Botkin, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Crane's Roost Nursing Home in Aztec after surrendering to her long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Lelia was born April 15, 1932 in Altair, Texas. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Chrissy Greenleaf, 39, of Aztec, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Aztec. She was born March 30, 1978, in Reserve, N.M. to Carrie Estrada and Danny Livingston.

A memorial service was held May 27 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Aztec.

Carol Lee Schrock, 76, of Aztec, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, in Aztec. She was born July 22, 1940, in Kosciusko County, Ind. to Ralph and Martha Hartman.

A private graveside burial will take place at a later date.
