Friday, May 19th at Riverside Park in Aztec, the Kindergarten class enjoyed a day out of the classroom fishing. Sponsors of this very popular annual event provided food; instruction on fly tying; bugs; animal hides, horns and footprints; casting to fish instruction; and some live fishing at the pond. Sponsors also provided a starter fishing pole kit for each child attending, as well as bankside fishing lessons. Later in the day, students took a nature walk to apply the learning. Teacher Ms. Randleman of Lydia Rippey particularly enjoys this annual event out with her students, because "the kids look forward to this all season."

Kevin Holladay of New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said, "What makes this succeed is the parental and community involvement. Connecting kids to the outdoors through fishing promotes a healthy lifestyle and bonds them to the watershed in a way that lasts a lifetime."

Other supporting organizations included WPX Energy and Priority Energy.
