Local family died in car crash

On May 12, retired Engineer Jimmie Crawford (Farmington Fire Dept.), his wife Melissa, and two children Grant, 4 years old, and Chace, 2 years old, were killed in a automobile accident on Highway 550, south of Cuba.

The driver of another vehicle had crossed the center line and hit the family's car head-on. The driver also perished in the crash, and three passengers in the vehicle were injured.

According to reports, the family, who lived in Aztec, was headed to Albuquerque for a soccer tournament when the crash happened.

Melissa also has two older sons who were not in the vehicle that night.

The family has set up a gofundme account, which currently shows donations of almost $39,000. "Our beautiful family was tragically killed in a car accident. We have funeral costs of four people and are requesting any assistance that you can provide. Melissa leaves behind two precious boys, who need support as well," the gofundme page says. An account, The Melissa and Jimmie Crawford Memorial Fund," has also been set up at Wells Fargo for those who would rather not make donations online.

On May 17, the Farmington Fire Department and several other regional agencies escorted the family's remains to Aztec.

TALON extends our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the Crawford family.
