May 9 Meeting

 


At the regular meeting of the Aztec City Commissioners on May 9, commissioners voted to approve a time line to appoint a new commissioners to fill their empty seat. According to that timeline, City Clerk Karla Saylor is now accepting letters of interest and resume’s from those who are interested in the position. Those letters will be accepted until 6 pm on Wednesday, May 24. At that time, the City Clerk will confirm eligibility of each person who has applied, and prepare a packet of information for each sitting commissioner to review. The City Clerk will schedule interviews for those candidates who are chosen and interviews will be conducted through a special meeting, which will be open for the public to sit in. The public will only be able to listen to the interviews, not participate in the questions. Questions will be decided ahead of time, and each candidate will be answering the same questions. City Clerk Karla Saylor can answer any questions you may have about the process.

Zack Pettijohn, a citizen who lives on Lovers Lane in Aztec, spoke during the citizens input portion of the meeting and told commissioners how unhappy he is with the culvert that was installed on his street. He told commissioners that the rapairs they did made the problem worse than it was before. He owns two houses on the north side of Lovers Lane and there are currently sand bags in front of the homes to keep water from running into them when it rains. He also said he wanted to offer a couple of solutions, not to just complain, and he provided pictures of a some ideas that may help the situation.
