Leadership New Mexico is pleased to announce the following leaders among the 24 statewide professionals who recently graduated from the fifteenth Local Government Leadership Program: Jim Crowley, San Juan County Commissioner; John Kuhn, San Juan County Chief Deputy County Assessor; and Tanya Shelby, San Juan County Clerk.

The Local Government Leadership Program is an educational partnership between the New Mexico Association of Counties, the New Mexico Municipal League, the New Mexico School Boards Association and Leadership New Mexico. These organizations joined together to provide a unique educational experience to county and municipal officials, school board members, members of the New Mexico National Guard and regional councils of governments.

The Local Government Leadership Program curriculum is patterned after Leadership New Mexico's Core Program, and is designed to provide local leaders the opportunity to explore the critical issues facing New Mexico and participate in skill-building workshops. The program seeks to prepare local officials with the background and knowledge necessary to undertake their civic responsibility and instill in them a passion for effective and ethical public service. Since its inception in 2002, the Local Government Leadership Program has held 15 programs with a total of 324 participants. These participants represent 41 municipalities, 27 counties, 14 school districts and two regional councils of government, and there have been 10 New Mexico National Guard participants.
