SJC RECOGNIZES WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH

April 2017

During the month of April, San Juan College will shine blue lights at night on the Clock Tower to help increase awareness, acceptance and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The goal is to help all individuals with ASD thrive and succeed personally, professionally, and academically.

April is World Autism Awareness Month, and April 2 was World Autism Awareness Day, an internationally recognized day, as designated by the United National General Assembly.

Autism is a complex disability that interferes with the development of communication and social interaction skills. More accurately know as Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, it is a lifelong disorder that can make learning difficult and may lead to challenging behaviors. ASD is estimated to affect as many as 1 in every 45 American children.

Each week in April, San Juan College will post information about ASD to its Facebook page. Please check in regularly to learn more about behavioral characteristics, treatments, and things you can do to help.
