Twelve qualify for NM State Tournament

February 17, 2017

Tiger Takedown 2/13/2017

After a strong showing last week at the District 1-5A Duals, we continued with a solid finish at the District State Qualifying Tournament. Aztec put 8 into the finals and walked away with 5 District Champions and 12 total qualifiers to the New Mexico State Tournament. This will give us a solid base of wrestlers for the State Tournament this weekend at the Star Center in Rio Rancho. Hopes and dreams will be felt, achieved, and for some lost, in our preparations this week for the biggest show in New Mexico for High School Wrestling. It now comes down to how mentally prepared the wrestlers are for this stressed filled event.

Who will be Aztec Wrestling’s next State Champions and become part of the legendary history?

Trivia question answer: Where was the farthest an Aztec Wrestling team has traveled for competition? 1991 and 1997 to Hawaii for the Iolani Invitational winning it both years. Iolani is located just above the Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. Last trivia question of the season: Which Aztec High School wrestler has won the most State Championships?

We want to take the time to THANK all our supporters, sponsors, teachers and parents for all the help this season. We were able to host 4 major events that have pushed us to the front. Thank You to ALL!!!!!
