AZTEC SCHOOL BOARD

Feb 9, 2017 meeting Aztec School Board 02.09.17 The Aztec School Board met on Feb. 9 and took action on several items, including approval for graduation dates for 2018 for AHS and Vista Nueva High Schools, approval of the AMSD calendar for the 2017-18 school year, and approval of the course handbook for Vista Nueva for 2018. The Board voted unanimously to send a letter to reject a grant that helps pay for facilitating a five-year master plan. Superintendent Carpenter said “We are not accepting that funding” because staff has the ability to complete that plan without hiring an outside source. Representatives from Mosaic Charter Academy School asked the Board to acknowledge the fact that the charter school and their supporting foundation will be purchasing property and building a permanent location on the southern edge of Aztec. The Board also approved the Financial Audit for the Fiscal Year 2015-16. Board members approved travel plans for: • Park Ave. 4th graders to go to Haviland Lake to learn survival skills • Park Ave. and Koogler Middler School students to go to DestiNation Imagination in Albuquerque • AHS teachers to attend “Educators Rising” in Las Cruces • AHS JROTC to travel to Santa Fe • Indian Education Coordinator to take students to the Gathering of Johnson O’Malley in Albuquerque • Koogler Middle School honor students to go to an Isotopes game in Albuquerque in May • Koogler Middle School sixth grade team to go to Ft. Lewis for a campus tour and educational opportunities Board members also approved fund raisers for the following groups: • Lydia Rippey selling $8 items • AHS Baseball selling calendars and bracelets • AHS JROTC selling advertising in the TALON newspaper
