LOW TURNOUT TO SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

LESS THAN 1/2 OF 1% OF REGISTERED VOTERS PARTICIPATED

Preliminary results on the local school board elections held on Feb. 7 have been released by the San Juan County Clerk’s office.

Aztec had two people running unopposed: Fran Dobey in Position 1 and Robert James Dusenbery in Position 3. Only 21 people out of 4406 registered voters voiced their opinion in this election. Ten of those people voted by absentee ballot.

Bloomfield had three candidates running unopposed. Bruce Armenta ran for District 2; Tony L. Deherrera for District 4; and Veronica Desbah Tso for District 5. Twenty-six people voted, out of 5833 registered voters in the Bloomfield school district. Twelve of those were by absentee ballot.
