As the regular season comes to an end and the post season starts, we can reflect on just what has taken place over the past 2 months. Much growth and many setbacks have occurred as a program. The reality of it all is that this is what high school athletics is about. Learning to deal with what you do and understand you are responsible for what you do. This is important in the maturation process that is happening along the way. To watch young men and women develop, with the understanding that there have been set backs, but there has been huge growth, is what it is about. As the Aztec Wrestling Nation progresses forward, we hope to gain the understanding that we all win together or lose together as a Nation. Enough of my thoughts... as for what happened over the weekend; we went to one of the Oldest Wrestling Tournaments in the Four Corners area in Ignacio, Colorado. The 43rd Annual Butch Melton Memorial Invitational Tournament was the largest ever held in that small rural Colorado town with 18 teams represented including our Varsity and Junior Varsity. When the day finally ended, our Varsity was second and our JV were 16th . We were able to place 11 young men into the top 5, scoring 131 points. There were many great performances, but one that stood out at the end of the day came from Jared O'Toole when he pinned Monticello's, Dillon Slack pushing us out of a potential tie for 2nd into a virtual 2nd place.
