Young talent needed for Shrek the Musical

Auditions scheduled

February 3, 2017

Sandstone Productions is casting in February for their upcoming, summer production at Lion Wilderness Amphitheater of DreamWorks’ Shrek The Musical. This year they are doing auditions specifically for children’s parts.

“We don’t normally do children’s auditions for lead parts, so I don’t think people know about them,” says Lisa Hutchens, Supervisor for the Farmington Civic Center.

Auditions will be held February 9th at the Farmington Civic Center Theater from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for young Fiona, teen Fiona and young Shrek. Applicants should prepare to present a memorized monologue and a song excerpt. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to bring a headshot photo to the audition. If selected for a callback audition, actors should be prepared to learn and perform a movement (dance) audition at 8:00 p.m. that evening. For a full list of auditions requirements and a character list, including vocal ranges, applicants can visit http://www.fmtn.org/Sandstone. Interested parties should call (505) 599-1144 to schedule an audition time.

About Shrek the Musical:

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears. “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek....” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
